Kennett Township is in compliance with the requirements of PA Act 3 of 2008, the Right to Know and Open Records laws. This law insures that public information and records pertaining to the Township government are open and available and serve as a resource for citizens, public officials and members of the media. In responding to a request for public information and a citizen's right to know, the Township will ensure that citizens are provided with access to records to which they are entitled. Access to commonly used public information is already made immediately available on the Township web site. Archival information is also available on line. Other information is held within the Township offices and is not as readily available or may not be public information. Criminal records, for example, are maintained and managed by the Kennett Township Police Department and may have some restrictions. Only PA Act 3 defines and exempts certain records from being "open to the public." To make obtaining a record a smooth and efficient process, the Township requests that citizens use the request form and specify, in as much detail as possible, the specific record or records being sought. The Pennsylvania Office of Open Records reminds citizens to use good judgment in seeking records and not use this law to harass or overburden the Township from performing its other functions. The Township encourages patience and a spirit of cooperation in handling all citizen record requests. Questions? Please Contact: Alison S.
