Municipal Records Collection Overview Collection Organization Container Inventory Scope and Contents The collection consists of records of the Borough Council, as well as from various departments and subgroups of Borough government. Records from the Council include: meeting minutes (beginning ten years after the Borough's incorporation), 1730-1998; the Council roll book, 1934-1954; ordinances, 1717-1912, and codified ordinances, 1906-1947; financial records, 1843-1946; and tax records assessment rolls, 1973. Records from various departments and subgroups of the Borough, consist of: Bristol Water Department records, 1874-1952; Board of Health records, 1893-1929; Police Department records, 1893-circa 1950; Department of Public Works pay rolls, 1934-1954; a Recreation Board account book, 1956-1974; and Justice of the Peace dockets (most kept by Frederick J. Kraft), 1902-1928. Also included are a charter and ordinances from 1882. Inventories by department/document type and by box are available on site. Incorporated in 1720, it served as the county seat from 1705 to 1726. The Bristol (Pa.) Borough municipal records, 1730 to 1998, consist of Borough Council meeting minutes, roll books, ordinances, and financial records. Also included are records from various departments and subgroups of the Borough, in particular Bristol Water Department and Police Department records, and Justice of the Peace dockets. Immediate Source of Acquisition The Grundy Archive is the official repository for Bristol Borough. These records are on deposit from the Borough. Accruals No further accruals expected. Processing Information Summary descriptive information on this collection was compiled in 2012-2014 as part of a project conducted by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania to make better known and more accessible the largely hidden collections of small, primarily volunteer run repositories in the Philadelphia area.
