Deadline for this year is April 30, 2026 The Newport Township Fire Department is teaming up with the American Red Cross to give away and install FREE 10-year smoke detectors. Attached is a flyer to be shared on social media and public locations. This is a nationwide program that the American Red Cross sponsors to save lives! If you could kindly share this flyer with organizations within Newport Township and beyond, that would be great! If you know someone that is in need of smoke detectors, please direct them to https://www.SoundTheAlarm.org/GreaterPA or call 833-315-0882 to request smoke detectors. Please survey your members of your respective fire companies to see if anyone needs smoke detectors and let me know. I will let my contact know from the Red Cross about how may detectors are needed for our members. The way this will work is once the Red Cross receives requests for smoke detectors within Newport Township, they will let me know and they will provide the fire department with the detectors to install. If we get an overwhelming interest in the program, which I hope we do, the Red Cross will assist the fire department with installation. We are looking to conduct a blitz with the Red Cross in the Spring going door-to-door inquiring about the need for smoke detectors. If you have any questions, please let me know. Make sure you spread the word! Respectfully, Kyle G. Gruber Deputy Fire Chief | Newport Township 351 West Kirmar Avenue Wanamie, Pennsylvania 18634 (570) 332-3357
